Passionate about the work we are doing at ACAN?


We want YOU to help shape the future of our organisation by applying for the 2023-2024 STEERING GROUP.


We will have elections on the 13th of June at our Annual General Meeting (both in-person and remote). We are looking for people to contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation and to act as the custodians of ACAN by supporting the working groups and promote our work whenever the opportunity arises.

Steering Group Member


Contract Type: 12 months

Remuneration: Voluntary Post

Time: One year with 4-6 Steering Group meetings plus auxiliary events & meetings as required. Flexible & remote working meetings, but will include occasional in-person events. Regular attendance to coordinator circle meetings and important events.

Start Date: June 2023 (depending on candidate availability)



About ACAN

ACAN is a network of individuals within architecture and related built environment professions taking action to address the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown. We are a community benefit society currently run largely by volunteers, organised into thematic and international working groups.


Role Description


Responsibilities:

  • To Make decisions on key organisation wide issues, including but not limited to finance, funding, hiring, structure, events, processes.

  • To contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation.

  • To act as custodian of the organisation, support the working groups and promote the work of ACAN whenever the opportunity arises.

  • To attend all Steering Group meetings and annual AGM (held 4-6 times per year)

  • Regular attendance at the coordinator circle meetings.


Who might suit the role:

Successful candidates will be passionate about the work that ACAN does, and our three core goals:


  • Decarbonise Now

  • Ecological Regeneration

  • Cultural Transformation


This role would suit someone with a built environment, campaigning or non exec background. We are looking for someone who can commit to 12 months in post and who has a passion for ACAN’s work. Through this role, you will actively support grassroots campaigning to decarbonise our built environment, and the growth of an international network of climate activist architects.

  • To provide strategic direction for ACAN’s development

  • Planning, conducting and invigilating the Steering Group meetings effectively

  • Engage with all members of the Steering Group to ensure it’s smooth running

  • The above is supplemental to the general duties as a General Steering Group Member


Who might suit the role:

Successful candidates will be passionate about the work that ACAN does, and our three core goals:

  • Ecological Regeneration

  • Cultural Transformation


This role is suitable for someone who has an in-depth knowledge of ACAN. Management experience is essential. This role will provide high level guidance and decision support to support the operational team, and the thematic groups.

We are looking for someone who can commit to 12 months in post and who has a passion for ACAN’s work. Through this role, you will actively support grassroots campaigning to decarbonise our built environment, and the growth of an international network of climate activist architects.

Contract Type: 12 months

  • Ensures that funds are spent in line with the decisions of the Steering Group

  • Presents a financial summary to the Steering group at meetings

  • Advises the Steering Group on financial strategy

  • Liaise with the finance team

  • Have oversight of major funding streams and conditions

  • The above is supplemental to the general duties as a General Steering Group Member

Who might suit the role:

Successful candidates will be passionate about the work that ACAN does, and our three core goals:

  • Cultural Transformation


This role would suit someone with a built environment, and accounting and finance experience.


We are looking for someone who can commit to 12 months in post and who has a passion for ACAN’s work. Through this role, you will actively support grassroots campaigning to decarbonise our built environment, and the growth of an international network of climate activist architects.

  • Ensures proper information pre and post-meeting is issued to the Steering Group

  • Keeps formal records of the group’s process and decisions: the minutes of the meeting

  • Makes the arrangements for the quarterly meetings

  • The above is supplemental to the general duties as a General Steering Group Member

Who might suit the role:

Successful candidates will be passionate about the work that ACAN does, and our three core goals:

  • Cultural Transformation


This role would suit someone who has fastidious organisational and excellent communication skills, as well as having built environment experience.
