Thank you to everyone who came along to the ACAN Existing Buildings Group’s ‘Hug The Building’ launch event for the UK Demolition Map last week. We had a great turnout and an engaged and wide ranging panel discussion.
Big shout out to Haworth Tompkins for being such great hosts and a special thank you to all the wonderful panellists.
The ‘sold out’ in-person event was full of reflection, powerful conversations, and a deep sense of responsibility for our built environment.
We had fantastic insights from our speakers Simon Sturgis, Will Hurst, Alice Brown, Sara Edmonds, Eva Voulgaridou and Anna Mistry Bergbom – discussing the impact of demolition, preservation, and the urgent need to rethink our relationship with architecture.
We also joined together to launch a brilliant tool: the UK Demolition Map – an interactive resource showing buildings that have been demolished, are under threat, or have been saved.
Those that attended the event got hands-on with the map – marking places, sharing thoughts, and challenging how we approach change in the built environment.

Know a building that matters? Add it to the map and make some noise. We need your help to populate the ACAN Demolition Map and save more buildings.
